Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)
The Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) is administered by the U.S Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. This program is a nationwide initiative that brings together federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officials, prosecutors, community-based partners, and other stakeholders to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in a community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
The New Mexico Department of Public Safety (NMDPS) has established a collaborative partnership with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in support of addressing local crime problems and resources. PSN utilizes four key design elements of successful violent crime reduction initiatives which includes community engagement, prevention, and intervention, focused and strategic enforcement, and accountability. PSN also encourages the use of research driven data, evidence, and innovation to create strategies and interventions that are effective and make communities safer. This data-driven approach enables jurisdictions to understand the full nature and extent of the crime challenges they are facing and to direct resources to the highest priorities.
