Albuquerque, NM – On September 11, 2023, agents with the New Mexico State Police Crime Suppression Unit arrested Valiente Nunez, 53, and Rose Vargas, 30, both of Albuquerque.

The pair were wanted by police in connection to an August 2023 officer-involved shooting (OIS) involving the Albuquerque Police Department.   Nunez and Vargas had active arrest warrants for Harboring and Aiding a Felon.  Through investigation, State Police Crime Suppression Agents located the individuals at 7901 Marquette NE in Albuquerque.

Agents made contact with Nunez and Vargas at around 7 p.m. and peacefully took them into custody without incident.  They were booked in the MDC on their outstanding arrest warrants.

“Officers on the street carrying out purposeful and proactive police work is how we are going to fight the violent crime epidemic in Albuquerque,” said Troy Weisler, Chief of the New Mexico State Police. “In the coming weeks and months, the New Mexico State Police’s presence will become well known to the violent felons in Bernalillo County.”
