Albuquerque, NM– On January 17, 2023, at around 8:20 a.m., the New Mexico State Police was requested by the Albuquerque Police Department to investigate a fatal crash on Interstate 40 near mile marker 166 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The initial investigation shows 2006 Chevrolet Aveo was parked in the right lane of travel on Interstate 40 eastbound near mile marker 166 and was struck by a 2018 Ford pick-up traveling east on Interstate 40. The driver of the Chevrolet, Ona Savage eighty-three of Albuquerque, NM sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The passenger of the Chevrolet a fourteen-year-old male was transported by emergency medical personnel to an area hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The driver of the Ford pick-up was not injured and was treated by emergency medical personnel on the scene.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts do appear to have been properly utilized.
The New Mexico State Police Reconstruction Unit assisted in the investigation.
This investigation is ongoing and being led by the New Mexico State Police.
