Eddy County, NM – On October 3, 2021, at about 6:30 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on Eddy County Road 798 east of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
The initial investigation shows a 2017 Ford F-250, driven by Jaime Barbosa (19) of Kilgore, TX was traveling north on Eddy County Road 798. For unknown reasons, the F-250 crossed into the southbound lane of traffic. A 2018 Mack semi-truck traveling south noticed the F-250 traveling north in the southbound lane. The driver of the semi-truck pulled over on the southbound shoulder of the roadway to avoid a collision. The F-250 continued south and collided semi-truck on the south shoulder of Eddy County Road 798.
Barbosa was transported by emergency medical personnel to an area hospital in Carlsbad, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Mack, a forty-nine-year-old male, who will not be named by the New Mexico State Police was uninjured in the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized.
