Santa Fe, NM – On March 22, 2021, at around 5:00 p.m. a New Mexico State Police officer on patrol on Interstate 25 around milepost 286 in Santa Fe County saw a green GMC pickup truck going south on Interstate 25 at over 90 miles an hour.
The New Mexico State Police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but it failed to stop for the officer and a pursuit ensued. A second quick-thinking State Police officer positioned himself on Interstate 25 at the Cerillos Road on-ramp and successfully deployed a tire deflation device on the fleeing GMC.
A short time later the GMC, with its front tires deflated, pulled to the median of Interstate 25. State Police officers promptly surrounded the vehicle, performed a felony stop, and safely took the driver, and passenger into custody without further incident.
A check with NMSP dispatch to identify the duo revealed they were wanted fugitives from the State of Colorado. The driver identified as Kameron Antonio Martinez, 19, and the passenger identified as Eric Terrel Lockhart, 18, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado were wanted out of Colorado for Vehicle Theft and Robbery. The GMC they were driving was also reported stolen out of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In addition to their arrest warrants out of Colorado, Martinez and Lockhart were charged by New Mexico State Police with Aggravated Fleeing from a Police Officer (felony), Receiving or Transferring a Stolen Motor Vehicle (felony), and Out of State Fugitive (felony). They were booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center and will be extradited to Colorado.
