Deming, NM – On Monday, February 27, 2023, at the request of the Luna County Sheriff’s Office, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to investigate an apparent homicide at 5950 Hermanas Grande SW in Deming, NM.
State Police Investigations Bureau agents learned that a 911 call was made requesting a welfare check on a male individual inside the residence at 5950 Hermanas Grade Road. When Luna County Deputies arrived on the scene, they gave verbal commands to the occupants inside the house. A male, identified as Rogelio Baeza Jr. (36) of Deming, NM exited the residence. Deputies entered the residence, where they located Edward Brown (39) of Deming, NM deceased with apparent blunt force trauma injuries.
Agents learned that Baeza Jr. and Brown are brothers. The two had been drinking on the evening of February 27, 2023, when a verbal altercation occurred between the two of them. Sometime after the argument, Baeza Jr. armed himself with a blunt object and attacked Brown.
Edward Brown was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
Rogelio Baeza Jr. was booked into the Luna County Adult Detention and charged with:
- First Degree Murder
- Tampering with Evidence
