Paul Coverdell Science Improvement Grants Program
The Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program (PC) is administered by the U.S Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. This Program is aimed at improving the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical examiner/coroner services. Funds may be used to eliminate a backlog in the analysis of forensic evidence, train staff members, employ forensic laboratory personnel, and purchase lab equipment in effort to address emerging forensic science issues and technology through implementation of new technologies and processes into public laboratories.
In the State of New Mexico, PC is utilized to support the efforts of the Department of Public Safety’s Forensic Laboratory, the Albuquerque Police Department Crime Laboratory, the NM Department of Health’s Scientific Laboratory Division, and the University of New Mexico’s Office of the Medical Investigator. These agencies work in collaboration to support the identified joint priorities within the Statewide Forensic Strategic Plan for improving the quality and timeliness of forensic science or medical examiner services throughout New Mexico.
