On September 16, 2022, at about 6:15 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash at the intersection of New Mexico State Road 2 and Darby Road south of Roswell, New Mexico.
The initial investigation shows a 2005 Ford Mustang was traveling west on Darby Road. For reasons unknown, the Mustang failed to yield at the intersection of Darby Road and State Road 2 and was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet truck traveling south on New Mexico State Road 2. The passenger of the Mustang, a seventeen-year-old male sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The driver of the Mustang a seventeen-year-old male and the driver of the Chevrolet truck a fifty-six-year-old male were transported by emergency medical personnel to an area hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts do appear to have been properly utilized.
For the privacy of the family, the name of the passenger and driver will not be released by the New Mexico State Police. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
