Missing Persons Clearinghouse
The Missing Persons Clearinghouse is responsible for posting missing persons to the public website, and releasing alerts to the media. The Clearinghouse also keeps in contact with the police agencies and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to keep all information current. As a Clearinghouse we release Amber Alerts and Silver Alerts to the media. A person can be reported missing at any time when their whereabouts are unknown and are believed to be in danger, regardless of age.
Missing Persons Registry
A person who is reported as missing, regardless of age. Each missing person is posted to the public website by the Clearinghouse with a picture and brief description of where the person was last seen, wearing, and any additional information available.
A child under 18 who has been abducted and is in danger of serious bodily harm or death. The clearinghouse will gather all of the necessary information on the child and the abductor. All of the information will be released to the media and will be posted to the public Missing Person website.
Silver Alert An adult reported as a missing person who is fifty years or older and whom there is a clear indication that the individual has irreversible brain disorder. (i.e. Alzheimer’s, Dementia, etc.)
The clearinghouse will gather all the information on the missing individual and release it to the media, as well as posting the individual to the Department of Public Safety Missing Persons website.
Similar to the Amber Alert, creates a notification system for law enforcement when an individual with severe physical, mental or developmental disabilities is reported missing. The clearinghouse will gather all the information on the missing individual and release it to the media, as well as posting the individual to the Department of Public Safety Missing Persons website.
Endangered Criteria
An endangered person is in imminent danger of causing harm to the person’s self; is in imminent danger of causing harm to another; is in imminent danger of being harmed by another or who has been harmed by another; has been a victim of a crime as provided in the Crimes Against Household, Members Act or in Section 30-3A-3 or 30-3A-3. l NMSA 1978, or their equivalents in any other jurisdiction; is or was protected by an order of protection pursuant to the Family Violence Protection Act; [or] has Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or another degenerative brain disorder or a brain injury; or has a developmental disability as defined in Subsection A of Section 28- 16A-6 NMSA 1978 and that person’s health or safety is at risk. The clearinghouse will gather all the information on the missing individual and release it to the media, as well as posting the individual to the Department of Public Safety Missing Persons website.
